A Korean Paebaek Ceremony

The Paebaek is a traditional Korean ceremony performed as part of a wedding celebration.  In Korean tradition, the marriage of a man and woman represents the union of two families.

Historically, it was intended as a way for a bride to pay her respects to the groom's family, with whom she would go and live with after the wedding. However, in modern times, it is a way for the bride and groom to honor both sides of the family. Recently, the Korean Paebaek is increasingly performed on the wedding day in front of guests.

In the U.S., couples often combine a traditional Western wedding with a short Korean Paebaek ceremony, allowing both sides of the family to offer blessings to the couple.
